An entrance is an opening, such as a door or gate, that allows access to a place such as land, building or room. The word entrance is typically associated with the primary doorway giving access to a building. This might be referred to as the main entrance.

Entrances can also restrict access to a place, building or space, either by security mechanisms such as locks, or by staff controlling admission.

Architecturally, entrances are generally a key element of the overall composition of a building, and are typically clearly recognisable so that visitors are able to easily find their way into the building.
