On 13 July 2021, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) launched a Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management.

There is an increased need for building safety managers following the Grenfell Tower fire and the subsequent Hackitt Review. This course will prepare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage building safety in line with legislation and regulations, as well as learning the techniques for managing safety in occupied buildings. It also covers the day-to-day management of fire and structural safety in higher risk buildings and how to establish a clear point of contact for residents for fire and safety-related issues.

The course is designed for construction professionals moving into the new key duty holder role of Building Safety Manager. It includes six units:

# building safety management .
# Health safety and wellbeing for building safety.
# Technology and structures for building safety.
# Building regulations for construction.

Adrian Montague, Associate Director of the CIOB Academy, said: “Recent events and legislative changes have made the role of Building Safety Manager a key duty holder role. The CIOB Academy is excited to offer this new qualification that will give professionals the skills to take on this role and ensure the safe management of buildings.”
