New page

The Communities Delivery Unit, is part of the Pride in Place programme, a Labour Government initiative (with initzial elements from the previous Conservative government under a different name) that was officially announced in September 25, 2025 with the [https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/68d65f83c908572e81248d46/Pride_in_Place_Strategy.pdf Pride in Place strategy publication], describing the governments intention support some of the most deprived areas of the country by allocating them a share of £5 billion or around £20 million of funding for each of the selected areas for long-term improvements over the next 10 years.

The Communities Delivery Unit will be established an sit within MHCLG, to provide direct ongoing support to local authorities, and MPs. A dedicated government official in every place under the Pride in Place programme will be a “point person” for that area acting as a critical friend throughout the delivery plan process; monitoring the depth of engagement; spending time in the area; providing cross-government advocacy and escalating concerns within MHCLG, as needed. This means that every single neighbourhood has a “direct line” to government support, whenever they might need it.

The mechaniism for that supoport will be via a secondary element to the Pride in Place programme named as Neighbourhood Boards and a tertiary element called the Network for Neighbourhoods. Neighbourhood Boards being responsible for representing the diverse community voices and co-creating the decade-long plan with membership expected to include residents, grass roots activists, local businesses, cultural and sports organisations, and anchor institutions such as schools or healthcare providers, ensuring that boards reflect the community they serve. The Network for Neighbourhoods aims to share best practices across communities via the Neighbourhood Boards and supported by the Communities Delivery Unit. Combined this aims to reduce reliance on external consultants and build local capacity, ensuring skillsand knowledge endure beyond ten years, enabling Neighbourhood Boards to use flexible funding, training, and technical support to leverage public, private, and philanthropic investment for sustainable regeneration.
