New page

[https://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/Documents/CorporateServices/Finance/approved-lbap.pdf North Ayrshire Local Biodiversity Action Plan], 2019-2031, published by North Ayrshire Council, states in relation to climate control as: ‘Ecosystems influence the local climate and air quality. For example, trees provide shade whilst forests influence rainfall and water availability both locally and regionally. Trees or other plants also play an important role in regulating air quality by removing pollutants from the atmosphere. Ecosystems regulate the global climate by storing greenhouse gases. For example, as trees and plants grow, they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and effectively lock it away in their tissues.’

It may also be referred to as climate regulation.

NB Both these terms might also be used to refer to artificial systems used to regulate the climate in particular spaces, such as air conditioning in a car.
