Competition seeking new technologies to help solve the challenge of solid walls
BRE is looking for new solutions to accurately and quickly measure the heat losses from solid walls. Up to £50,000 is available to support further testing and development of working prototypes.
With more than 7 million solid wall dwellings in Great Britain, tackling solid wall housing represents one of the most significant opportunities to deliver energy efficiency. Effective interventions rely on robust, up to date and accurate data, but a gap is emerging between calculated predictions and actual realised energy savings following the application of solid wall insulation.
This competition is looking for solutions that combine accuracy and speed of measurement and can be used by energy assessors to determine the U-values of solid walls in dwellings as part of their routine survey inspection.
The competition forms part of the DECC-funded solid walls research programme. It closes on 15 May 2015 with an online question and answer session on 27 March 2015.
